Tumblr Disappointment

I’ve been using WordPress for nearly two years with ease. This week I added Tumblr to my online tool kit. Working with tumblr is rather like travel to a foreign country, it teaches you the value of home. I just lost 30 minutes of my life when I pushed save and tumblr failed.

I was reassured by an error message that the tumblr boffins were on the case. Actually I wasn’t. I’ve been waiting for two days for tumblr’s confirmation email. Although I’ve repeatedly requested a a resend, nothing. Perhaps tumblr’s autoreplies are swallowed by my ISP’s junk filter? I know they are not arriving in my personal junk mail box!

Google + is in my tool kit now as well. If you want to feel like an explorer in an unknown territory, check out Google +. If you can. The site comes with warnings that imply not everyone will be admitted. A social network with standards? Circles are Google +’s attempt at differentiation from Facebook.

Tumblr has been around. Young celebrities [their PR people] use it to share photos of the no-man’s land between their public and private lives. Google + is a recent launch, so playing in that sandbox is rather lonely at the moment.

PS: Tumblr finally came through…my confirmation email arrived, and the post miraculously appeared when I logged in!

WordPress and IE 9 – the Beta Version

The logo of the blogging software WordPress.

Oh boy, oh boy, I’ve been an idiot. I downloaded the Beta Version of IE9. I should have let well enough alone, because I just lost a post that I had been working on for the last 30 minutes due to the incompatibility of wordpress and IE9.

You could say it was my inability to understand the “intuitive” actions of IE9. Dag nab it – if I click I’ll accept even the unsafe items – the program shouldn’t overrule my decision. So here I am using Mozilla to post a diatribe about IE9. All is well in the blogosphere.

The Journey as Metaphor

The journey as metaphor is an ancient one. Just google the phrase and you’ll see what I mean. Do you have a favourite song, poem or writing that uses journey as a metaphor? I would love to hear about it. Just post a comment.

I’m compelled to consider the metaphor, because I’ve found a new blog that embodies it. The author is the Practical Professor. She is sharing her journey with the world. I encourage you to  join her.
