Thanks to the New York Times, I found this fascinating animation that tracks walrus in the Chukchi Sea. It demonstrates how our artificial political boundaries have no relationship to walrus. Researches from the Alaska Science Center are studying the impact of reduced Arctic Ocean ice on the walrus population that inhabit a coastline shared by Russia and Alaska. Just like polar bears, walrus need sea ice to survive.
